![]() Endhiran, the Robot', the tenth film by S.Shankar. The film features Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. The movie is known for being the most expensive Asian film ever made and It is also slated to make the largest worldwide opening for an Indian film. It is expected to be released worldwide on 24 September 2010 along with its dubbed versions: Robot in Hindi and Robo in Telugu. Story of this science fiction movie has written by the director himself. Rajini plays dual roles in ‘Endhiran’. One is a scientist Vaseegaran and the other is a Robot called Chitti. The scientist Rajini creates an android man with artificial intelligence – like that of sixth sense in humans – which looks exactly like him and behaves too like a human to help mankind. But the robot later acquires more human characters. He through technical upgrades and becomes almost human. It falls in love with Aishwarya Rai and writes romantic poems besides doing many other things. Knowing about the extra ordinary intelligence of the Robot the villains lead by Danny Denzongpa try to get control of the Robot. Scientist Rajini then fights to save the Robot falling into the hands of the enemies and destroys the evil forces using the Robot itself. The technical crew of ‘Endhiran’ is hand picked by Shankar from all over the world comprising the best of the world. Sujatha Rangarajan originally announced as the dialogue writer of the film, died during the production stages, with V. Balakumaran being named as his successor. Along with Shankar's usual directorial assistants, Manoj Bharathiraja, son of noted filmmaker Bharathiraja, was signed on to be an assistant director. Sabu Cyril was signed up as the art director while R. Rathnavelu has taken up the post of the cinematographer. Raju Sundaram will choreograph dance moves. The film will be edited by Anthony Gonsalves, with Manish Malhotra and Mary E. Vogt dually in charge of costume designs. Yuen Woo Ping will be the stunt co-ordinator for Enthiran, making his foray into Indian cinema, while Stan Winston Studios will take care of the animatronics in the film. Industrial Light & Magic will be working on visual and special effects. The music composed by Legendry A.R. Rahman would feature lyrics by Vairamuthu and Pa. Vijay and it is already broken many records. The songs of Endhiran were top-sellers in Apple’s iStore in two days’ time. There’s another factor that’s gonna turn the spotlights on this film. It’s all about Oscar winner Resul Pookutty as he has been assigned to work on sound mixing for this film. Resul Pookutty has worked in various projects of Rahman including Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghajini’, globally acclaimed ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘BLUE’. With ‘Endhiran’, Kalanidhi Maran and Hansraj Saxena of Sun Pictures are debuting as official producers. Sun Pictures has tied up with the reputed international distributors HBO to release ‘Endhiran’ with English subtitles in the West. ‘Endhiran’ is expected to hit world screens with nearly 1500 prints in three languages. In the process for the first time China will screen a Rajini film. The movie has added another record to its credit, which even the James Bond sequel Quantum of Solace failed to achieve. The movie’s song ‘Kilimanjaro’ was shot at Machu Pichu. It is a UNESCO World heritage site and attracts a lot of tourists from around the world. A request to shoot the James Bond movie ‘Quantum of Solace’ was turned down, a couple of years back, as the place is rarely used for shooting. Now Endhiran team can really proud that it has been shot in the same place where no commercial film has ever been filmed before.
